At various points in its history, Okhotsk was a centre for the Russian-American Fishing and Fur-Trading\u00a0activities.<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>It is known for being the headquarters for the explorer Vitus Bering, who sailed from here for two extraordinary expeditions, discovering the Bering Strait\u00a0on one and Alaska\u00a0on the other.
